Stem cells can be collected from the horse’s own bone marrow or be embryonically derived. These cells are then used to treat a variety of conditions, including tendonitis, ligament injuries, osteoarthritis, meniscal injuries, etc. Stem cells can be injected directly into the site that requires treatment. There, they will develop into new cells of the desired tissue type to help repair damaged tissue. Alternatively, there have been some recent reports of using stem cells regionally (regional perfusion) with very good results.
